Imagine. Two months on a ship to make friends from 14 different countries.
Imagine afterwards. A lifetime to make friends with the other 28 countries.
News from SWY USA spotlights updates and happenings about the Ship for World Youth (SWY) program and the United States Alumni Association. Although SWY is organized by the Government of Japan every year, the United States has the pleasure of sending a delegation to participate in the program usually every two or three years.
Here we try to keep you updated about SWY, when it is sailing, what they are doing, what adventures the alumni are seeking out, and when the U.S. is invited again. Check out www.swyusa.org for more info about SWY and how to apply.

Nepal has yet to be invited on the Ship for World Youth. If you want to try, I would contact the Japanese Embassy in Nepal http://www.np.emb-japan.go.jp/ and tell them about the program and tell them that you would like Nepal to be invited. If the Embassy does not know about the program, share with them the Japanese website http://www.shipforworldyouth.org/J/index.htm and they should be able to figure out how to lobby for Nepal to participate. From what I know, usually the Embassy needs to send the request before August to be included in the following year’s sailing 15 months later. So if they made a request in August 2011 AND it was approved, then Nepal would be invited to participate in January 2013.
In the meantime, check out the “Study Japan” and “Japan Resource Center” links on the website http://www.np.emb-japan.go.jp/ for other opportunities. Good luck and give it a try.
